Logo Theory

A logo is the visual representation of your brand; the cornerstone of your business model. Your logo should evoke the basic concepts of what your company, or business offers to its customers. We, as designers accomplish this by visually simplifying the communication of a complex idea; using just the right font, color palette, and iconography.

Research + Collaboration

A successful logo design depends on a solid foundation of research and collaboration. At Honey + Hare we request that our client do some research on their own. We want to know what color you love, font inspiration, and logo styles that have caught the eye. Together we will create a little mood board of inspiration to guide the project.

We also gather information on your competitors, and any colors or themes we should avoid during the design process: anything you don’t want to see?

Once we have your direction and start on your project, we dive into our internal research process. We look into current trends in design and within your industry, and vet options based on original client direction.

Concept + Visualizing

Sketching out initial ideas, either with pen and paper, or sometimes on the computer, is how  ideas and thoughts start to come to life. This time is spent exploring any and all possibilities; narrowing down concepts to reflect a few different styles and options based on the research and objectives. Even more collaboration takes place to finalize the logo.

Below you will see examples of our logo design process for cravenhaven.com. Craven Haven is a home styling business that wanted a logo to reflect their Transitional Design aesthetic – a meshing of modern and traditional elements.

Craven Haven Round 1: Logo Concepts

Honey and Hare typically presents 3 concepts in black and white in the first round, so that the focus is entirely on the concept, it’s easy to get hung up on color. While not completely fleshed out, these concepts inspire the direction to further explore. We try to provide a wide variety of options to consider, using different font styles, and imagery. Honey and Hare recommends taking some time, and gathering feedback from your community, and business network.

In this first round for Craven Haven, Honey and Hare presented: Script font, Sans Serif font, and a Serif font in each version. We paired each concept with a logo style: trendy, modern and classic.

Craven Haven Round 2: Edits to Chosen Concept

In Round 2, we agree on a direction to begin finalizing one of the three concepts in black and white. Sometimes we work on combining a few concepts, but it’s also not unheard of to start completely over. It’s all part of the discovery process, and creating a successful logo for your new venture.

The second round of Craven Haven consisted of tightening up lines, playing with horizontal versus stacked text, and solid compared to line versions. The hexagon concept was selected because it played off the shapes in the design aesthetic of the client, and emulated a house.

Craven Haven Round 3: Color Exploration

Round 3 is our favorite! We get to play with color, and we are (self described) color experts. A color palette is usually presented in monochromatic, analogous, or complementary color schemes. We like to also present a variety of color harmonies: cool, warm, split, and tetradic.

We think of the overall brand, mood and demographics of your business or company when exploring your color schemes. We also have other marketing materials in the forefront of our minds, like your website, and print collateral.

For Craven Haven the color scheme came directly from the mood board, and the images that would be used on the website and social media, so that we could keep the look consistent overall, and start establishing brand recognition.

Craven Haven Final Logo

The final logo comes to you packaged in all file types from vector eps, to web friendly jpg, and in one-color to three-color options. Your vendors will be extremely happy with you, when you provide a dropbox link, with the exact file type that is needed, and you will never have to worry about sending a low resolution file by mistake.

Craven Haven Testimonial

“Defining your own brand is extremely difficult – so having a creative partner to bring their expertise to the table is key. Working with Honey and Hare to design my logo was an easy and fun process. The ideas they brought to the table helped me hone in on what I (didn’t even know I) wanted my brand to reflect. The fonts, colors and iconography of the final product truly exemplify Craven Haven, and I’m so excited to build my business with this logo at its core.”
